Born in Livorno (Italy).

1892
With no formal training, he exhibits a painting for the first time at the Municipal Museum of Florence.

1896
First album of caricatures, Lanterna Magica.

1898
Arrives in Paris; first caricatures published in Le Rire.

1899
Nos actrices, an album of character portraits published by La Revue Blanche. First poster, for the magazine Frou-Frou.

1900
Signs his first contract with poster printer-publisher P. Vercasson. Beginning of his career as a poster artist.

1901-1914
He produces several hundred posters, including, in 1903, Chocolat Klaus, which marks a revolution in the art of the poster. He continues his work as a caricaturist of artistic and society life.

1912
At the Galeries Lafayette, he decorates the tea room, reading room and smoking room.

1915-1918
Spends the war years in Italy as an interpreter.

1919
Contract with the publisher Devambez.

1923
Exhibition of his complete works at Devambez. He adapts to the changes the poster is undergoing under the influence of Cassandre and the "Mousquetaires". His theories, already clearly set out as early as 1907 in an article for La Publicité moderne, are confirmed and increasingly align with those of the younger graphic designers. He takes part in numerous international exhibitions.

1930
Becomes a naturalised French citizen. Posters for O Cap and Le Cuir mark a significant evolution, which crystallises in 1931 with Bouillon Kub.

1935
Fresco decoration for the bar of the Dupont restaurant, boulevard Barbès.

1937
Vice-President of the Advertising section at the Exposition. He paints La Force motrice, decor for the Advertising pavilion.

1941
Ill, he retires to Grasse.

1942
Dies in Cannes.
