Created in 1931 by Suzanne Deutsch de la Meurthe, the first Deutsch Cup was won on 2 May 1933 at Étampes by Georges Détré flying a Potez 53. The race continued until the war.
Étampes
Louis Blériot prepared his crossing of the English Channel in 1909 with a flight from Étampes to Chevilly. Shortly afterward, he set up a flying school in the neighbouring commune of Guillerval, next to which Maurice Farman established another. A third soon followed, in Étampes itself on the road to Chartres, later bought by Armand Deperdussin. Étampes thus played a major role in the history of early aviation as a training ground, since numerous pilots of various nationalities came to learn to fly there before spreading what they had learned back in their home countries. Later, Marcel Bouilloux-Lafont, mayor of Étampes, became director of Aéropostale, and it was also in Étampes that the Patrouille de France was born, first named the Patrouille d'Étampes.
