Visby is a town of 22,236 inhabitants, founded in the 10th century on the then-independent island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea, now part of Sweden. Administratively, Visby is the seat of the Governor of Gotland County; there is also a locally elected municipal council. It is the seat of Gotland Municipality.

In contemporary Sweden, Visby is best known for its almost intact 3.4 km long stone wall encircling the old town — one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Scandinavia, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The wall is called "Ringmuren", meaning "the Ring Wall". The town is sometimes affectionately called the "City of Roses", a title disputed with other old Swedish towns.

The name "Visby" comes from the Old Norse vi (genitive singular of vé, meaning sacrificial place) and by, meaning "town".

Visby is a popular vacation destination for Scandinavians in summer and receives hundreds of thousands of tourists every year.
