The 1900 Exposition Universelle, or Paris Exposition of 1900, was the fifth World's Fair held in Paris, following those of 1855, 1867, 1878, and 1889. Its theme was "The Balance Sheet of a Century."
Announced on July 13, 1892, it was inaugurated on April 14, 1900, and opened to the public on April 15. It closed on November 12, after 212 days, and drew 50.8 million visitors.
An emblematic event of the Belle Époque and Art Nouveau. Paris kept several of its buildings, including the Petit Palais and the Grand Palais.
